Amazon’s new logistics center in Murcia will create more than 1,200 permanent jobs in three years

Amazon has announced the creation of more than 1,200 permanent jobs in a period of three years in the high-tech robotic logistics center that Amazon will open next fall in the Corvera (Murcia), where the company also opened a logistics station last year. These jobs will be added to the 12,000 permanent jobs that the company currently has in Spain.

This has been announced by the e-commerce giant during the visit that last month the President of the Government of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, the Minister of Industry, Valle Miguélez, and the Mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano have made to the works in Corvera. The authorities have been accompanied by Fred  Pattje, director of Amazon Customer Fulfillment in France, Italy and Spain, who has guided them through the works, detailing the different types of jobs that will operate in this center, and has presented the Amazon robotics technology that will support employees in their daily work.

“With this new robotic logistics center, we want to demonstrate our commitment to the Region of Murcia. We are proud to contribute to the creation of more than 1,200 permanent jobs over the next three years, which will entail competitive salaries, training programmes and a comprehensive package of benefits unique to the sector. All this, available from day one, while enjoying an innovative and safe working environment. In addition, sustainability has also been a fundamental part of this project, which has innovative systems that ensure low carbon emissions,” said Pattje.

For his part, the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, stressed that the presence of the company in this Region “is a pride for us” and showed his conviction that “this second Amazon center in our Region is very positive since it will mean more employment, more development and more opportunities for all. It is, in short, an open door to continue growing”.

A sustainable center with local roots

With more than 160,000 square meters, this future robotic center in Corvera, the company’s fourth of its kind in Spain, will start operating next fall, serving Amazon customers and providing better support to small Spanish independent sellers. Located next to the airport and about 20 km from the city of Murcia, this new location will be equipped with advanced Amazon robotics technology focused on the health and well-being of employees.

The new facilities have been built with sustainability at the heart of the scale, with integrated energy-saving technologies to reduce global carbon emissions. Solar panels will be installed throughout the roof to supply 100% of the energy the building will need during its operation, and energy-efficient systems – such as LEDs – will provide excellent lighting to employees. In addition, heat and energy recovery systems have been integrated into the ventilation systems, while the windows, roof and facades will be installed with high thermal efficiency to ensure insulation. The building will be delivered with a “very good” BREEAM certification. On the outside of the facilities, landscaping work will be carried out to maintain the balance of biodiversity in the area.

Amazon has already begun the process of selecting staff for a wide range of positions for this logistics center, focusing on positions such as Engineering and Maintenance Technicians, Logistics Operators, Chief Operations, Occupational Nursing, Computer Support Engineers, Automation Engineers, and many others.
